Santa Monica Farmers Market

There is no better way to enjoy a visit to Los Angeles than by visiting the farmers market in Santa Monica on a Wednesday morning. The market opens at 9:00 a.m. and is in full swing until 1:00 p.m. There you will find great assortment of fresh and organic produce brought in directly from the farms of the neighboring region.

Samples and tastes are plentiful. Some of the favorites at this time of year were the variety of citrus fruits, including grapefruits, madarian oranges, clementines, oranges, tangerines, and blood oranges which were sold individually or by the 5, 10 or 15 pound bag. Other highlights were the Mendocino dates, the strawberries and the artichokes that were as big as a dinner plate. As far as baked goods, there is a wonderful fresh baked stand at the far end of the market with 'everything apple', including strudel, bread and scones that were sold a half dozen to a bag. Also, the organic goat cheese was remarkably good-and provided for a wonderful post market picnic with the scones, avocado and tomatoes.

The market is also open on Saturdays, where it is a bit smaller and mainly organic. It is located on the 3rd Street Promanade, just a block away from the beach.
