Pumpkins and Squash- Too good to carve, best when cooked!

Pumpkin Chocolate Bread
Sliver Moon Bakery
Upper West Side, 105th and Broadway
New York City

Dense and delicious, this is one of the most delightful things that can be done to a pumpkin. With a drizzle of icing over the top, this bread is perfect with morning coffee or as a late night snack with with hot cider. The Silver Moon is the best thing to happen in this neighborhood in a rather long while and it has our applause and approval.

Pumpkin Soup
Cookies and Couscous
West Village, 230 Thompson St
New York City

The flavors of Morocco combined with the fall harvest of North American make for a delightful Pumpkin Soup. This one is is served with a light layer of honey swirled on top. Warm, thick and just a little spicy, this soup goes is best followed by one of the homemade sorbets.

Squash Ravioli with Asparagus
The Place
West Village, 310 West Forth Street
New York City

Tucked away, this cozy little West Village restaurant serves an outstanding Squash Ravioli in sage butter with asparagus. The pasta is thin and homemade and stuffed to its fullest potential with sweet, bright orange squash. A women with her pet toy ragamuffin canine sat at the bar with a glass of brandy, and for a moment, with the light hitting at exactly the right place, we were transported to trattoria in Tuscany.

Pumpkin Ravioli in Sage Butter
Caminetto D'Oro
Via de'Falegnami, 4, Bologna
Italy

This reviewers first meal in Italy, and so memorable. Light, perfectly cooked and fresh ravioli, saut˙ed in a sage butter. So few ingredients, but such a magnificent result. The tortellini in brodo that followed also met my expectations of perfection. A lovely lunch spot and perfect way to begin an Italian culinary adventure.
